About Our Chocolate F1 Labradoodles
We have been blessed to have some beautiful Chocolate Labradoodles. While color should never be the deciding factor for picking a dog, over temperament, chocolate Labradoodles are very beautiful and can be harder to find than some of the other colors.
Why are Chocolate Labradoodles harder to find?
In order for a puppy to be chocolate, it takes a particular combination of color genetics for a dog to be chocolate. From what is called a B locus, there are 2 potential color traits:
-
B = Black pigment (dominant)
-
b = brown pigment (recessive)
For a puppy to be chocolate they need to receive two copies of the b (recessive) color traits - making them bb. If a parent dog does not carry the recessive brown pigment (b) then they are unable to reproduce chocolate Labradoodles. We are fortunate to have 2 chocolate Labradors who both carry one copy of the b locus, a silver Labrador (who carries 2 copies of the b locus), and a charcoal Labrador who carries one copy of the b locus.
